The Kallax system was already primed and painted. I applied an additional coat of Behr Dynasty Pink and then took.a small amount of the pink and thinned it down to the same consistency of my paints with zinsser booster. I used it as my flood coat and applied small amounts of layering paint colors then put black and white ca and just moved the paint around. Once dry I then applied a small coat of amazing clear cast resin and got scared! My sides were taped and draped with clear plastic. I didn’t think about flipping the piece over to complete the other side. I was told to wait 72 hours but I waited 7 days! I then received my Gone Bananas color and knew I wanted the other side to be the polar opposite. I was able to first create approximately the same pattern as the other side but went back in with more pink and then added gone bananas. One side is darker and the other Gone Bananas steals the show! I then applied a thin coat of clear cast resin and awaited the 72 hours and killed myself picking it up. As this IKEA Kallax was purchased in 2012 in Nuremberg, Germany I had special memories with it. I knew I wanted to lift it off the ground to be able to put a tote underneath for more storage so I placed 2 16 inch “H” legs on the bottom. I do t know what I was thinking especially since my husband was gone and knew I had to lift it by myself. I still want to do the 8 shelves and the top but time keeps taking me away. Thank goodness I can do it with it standing upright! I have also started applying cherry blossoms on the front top side using a mold and amazing casting resin. With Color in our LIFE anything is possible!

Upon purchasing 2 shoe racks and looking at the boring faux wood grain I decided they needed to be Pinktified!! I lighted sanded each of the 6 shelves. Wiped down and once dried applied a coat of zinsser primer with a cabinet foam roller. Once dried I applied 2 coats of Behr Dynasty pink paint that I had left over from the inside of my kitchen cabinets. Once dried I then thinned down the dynasty paint with zinsser paint booster to the same consistency of my paints. I laid down my base coat and honestly just had fun. No rhyme or reason I literally started squirting paint! I paid attention when it came to the Pinks, Gone Bananas, and Royal Sapphire. IMO these 3 colors were made for each other! I got out my flower blow dryer and lightly blew it to give it motion. I had a lot of reapplying paint colors to get the main colors to stand out. I did use black and white ca but by just literally slinging it on. Upon it being completely dried I added a thin coat of amazing clear cast resin. TBH I did not tape up the bottom of the shelves. I kept scraping the drips from the paint and resin. Once I noticed the paint was almost dry I did take a baby wipe and wiped the bottom side. You would be shocked that it appears as if I taped it! After approximately 16 hours when I noticed the resin to be firm I once again wiped it down on the bottom with baby wipes. I have to honestly say making these 2 shoe racks was so fun! IMO they are masterpieces! Even my husband and 11 yr old son loves them! If you haven’t tried Gone Banana’s, Royal Sapphire and Pink before you need too!! The brightness of Gone Banana’s just seems to brighten your day and mood!
